 Tata Punch - 

As if Tata Motors hadn’t gathered all the attention with its latest offering, an affordable sub-compact SUV with a hard to forget name, the brand is already lining up its electric sibling! The plan is in line with Tata’s long-term strategy of providing affordable EVs in India. 

 

Powertrain -

The Tata Punch underpins the brand’s new ALFA platform that holds enough mettle to accommodate an electric motor. Therefore, it is quite certain that the Punch EV will feature Tata’s Ziptron high-voltage architecture as it aims to cater to the private segment more than commercial players. As per Tata, an electrified alternative of the Punch makes a lot of sense as people aren’t apprehensive to pay a premium of 25-30% over a regular fossil-fuel-powered model as buyers are now taking into consideration the total cost of ownership and running an electric vehicle along with the asking price.

Punch Diesel -

Tata Motors is also considering a diesel variant of the Punch, much like what is offered with its sibling, the Altroz. The hatchback does duty with the help of a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine, but for Punch, the brand might re-introduce the 1.0-litre, three-cylinder diesel motor that was offered with the Tigor and Tiago. The reason for this is, Tata wishes to offer the Punch diesel with a more capacious cabin so a four-cylinder diesel engine might make that fit a little tight. 

 

Tata Punch EV: Rivals

When it comes to stone-cold rivalry, the coast is quite clear for the Tata Punch EV as apart from the Nexon EV, there is no other electric compact SUV in the market. Tata might be aggressive with the Punch EV price and it might even take the position of the most affordable EV in India, replacing the Tigor EV!  Looks like an electric sibling rivalry!
